Asked Questions:
I see
some hosts offering "unlimited bandwidth". Why don't you offer this?
We do not offer packages
with unlimited bandwidth primarily because there is no such thing. Any host that
promises that is not telling the truth. Somewhere in their terms and conditions
are probably some words referring to "excessive use of resources", and in effect
these place some arbitrary limit on your bandwidth. We set limits to both
protect you and to provide you with a reliable service.
Do you
offer true 24/7 technical support?
Yes, we do offer fast and
friendly technical support. We have techs monitoring the helpdesk 24/7/365 who
will respond to your support ticket as promptly as possible.
Is
there a minimum time contract/commitment?
For Shared Server Hosting
there is not a contract or time committment. To keep our billing
costs down, and our charges as low as possible, we do require
hosting charges to be paid in advance on an annual basis. If
you cancel before the year is up, we refund the unused balance.
We currently only accept payment by credit cards
and through your PayPal account. We use PayPal as our credit card processing
service. You can cancel at any
time (please see our Terms of Service for policies
regarding this).
How
soon will my account be set up and ready for use?
We will setup your
account within 24 hours after your order has been processed. Your site can be
uploaded to our servers immediately after receiving the welcome email, which
will contain the IP address for your account, plus the password for the username
chosen during sign-up. In fact, we recommend that clients start uploading their
site as soon as possible after setup is complete, so that once domain transfer
is completed, the site will be available for use by your visitors.
Do I
have access to update my site 24 hours a day?
Yes. Whether you're a day
person or a night owl, your site is available for you to update, 24 hours a day,
7 days a week. You can use your favorite FTP program to update your site
contents or use either Namo Web Editor or the web-based File Manager from the control panel.
What
control panel software are you using?
We are using cPanel as the standard web-based
control panel software. It's very easy to use and has many cool features.
How do
I get my email?
Please use the following
information to retrieve email from your POP account: Incoming mail (POP3)
server: mail.yourdomain.com Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:
mail.yourdomain.com
If your ISP blocks port 25 (used for the SMTP
server), you can use port 26 for SMTP or use your ISP's SMTP server. Please
remember to check the "My outgoing mail server requires authentication" option
in your email client.
How do
I upload my files, when my domain name hasn't transferred?
You can upload your
page(s) immediately after you receive the welcome email by pointing your FTP
client to the IP address you were assigned when you opened your account. After
your domain is fully propagated through the system, you can upload to
yourdomain.com. Be sure to upload your files to the public_html directory.
How do
I move my current site to MainStreetWebs?
Every situation is
different, but generally, there are 5 basic steps in moving your site from your
current hosting company to MainStreetWebs: 1) Request
a quote from us. 2) Pay your hosting bill, which will
be emailed to you. There is a link in the email that you can
click to pay through PayPal, 3) Move the contents of your current site to
your new site (using the IP address given in the welcome email). Setup email
accounts, forwarders, autoresponders, etc. 4) Test, test, test, and then test
some more. 5) Change the nameserver configuration for your domain to point to
Dewahost's nameservers. It may take 24-72 hours for all DNS servers to be
updated.
Can I
host multiple domains in a single account?
Yes, this feature is
available in the Silver and higher hosting packages. The additional domains can
be parked (simple domain pointers) or add-on domains (pointing to a subdirectory
in the master domain). This way you can actually have several different web
sites hosted in a single account. You can setup it easily from your CPanel
Control Panel.
Does
MainStreetWebs allow adult, warez or other illicit sites or content?
No. Please see our Terms of Services page for permissible and impermissible
content.
What
are your server specifications?
MainStreetWebs uses only the
highest grade Supermicro and Tyan server class boards, rather than using no name
or "white box" equipments. We constantly upgrade our servers with the latest
hardware and software to give you the best hosting experience. Here's our latest
server specification: Dual AMD Opterons 265 (dual core), 4 GB DDR2 RAM, and
RAID-10 storage for best performance and reliability. All of our servers are
equipped with fault tolerant RAID storage and hot-swappable hard drives. This
means that in the event of a hard disk failure you should experience no system
downtime or loss of data.
Do you
offer automated backups?
Well, officiallly, no. We actually do backups, but it is the
customer's responsibility to back up their data to their local drive.
You can easily fo this through your online cPanel utility.
Why do
you use Red Hat Linux Enterprise?
Those of us who are bold
enough to try Red Hat Linux Enterprise as a server know that it is the ideal
server platform with a very high degree of reliability. Many system
administrators find that Linux servers run even for years without needing a
single reboot! That is a far cry from the Windows server environment, where
weekly or (if lucky) monthly reboots are commonplace. For a mission-critical
project like web hosting service that requires maximum reliability and
performance, we strongly believe that Red Hat Linux Enterprise is simply the
ideal server platform. It is open-source, highly configurable, secure, and very
stable.
How
many accounts do you put on every server?
This answer is different
for every server. Depending on the size of the websites, the amount of content,
and the purpose your using your web spaces for. Instead of capping the amount of
accounts for each server, we constantly monitor the loads of our servers. We
make sure that not only can it handle all of the accounts it has, but also has
extra capacity left to provide the best performance for our customer
accounts.
Do you
support ASP (Active Server Pages)?
Sorry, but we don’t
support ASP on our Linux servers.
What
are your network connections?
Our network connections
are among the fastest in the world, based on high-speed clear-channel
architecture with redundant connections to multiple Tier-1 backbone providers.
We utilize premium quality bandwidth from the following providers: Level 3,
Savvis, BTNAccess, nLayer, Aleron, NAC, ServerCentral, and Tiscali out of
Equinix Ashburn, VA and Equinix Chicago, IL.
Do you
offer any network uptime guarantee?
We are confident in the
quality of our network and we are proud to offer you a 99.9% network uptime
guarantee (excluding any scheduled maintenance). If your site is down for more
than 45 minutes for the billing month, we will refund your money back (up to
100%). In order to receive your credit you must do the following: document your
web site downtime in writing and have your web site downtime verified by us.
That is a promise.
